Patroller and Senior Patroller – Gatineau Park

 

YOUR ROLE

Under the supervision of Montagne Explore, the Patroller and Senior Patroller will be responsible for the following tasks:
  • Actively patrol the trail network (skiing, snowshoeing, winter biking, walking) to ensure user safety and compliance with Park regulations.
  • Perform minor maintenance work as needed.
  • Measure the thickness of the snow cover on the trails and transmit the information to the Visitor Centre.
  • Inspect the equipment required for operations on a daily basis.
  • Administer first aid and coordinate evacuation if necessary.
  • Document preventive and emergency interventions.
  • Provide accurate and comprehensive information to visitors. Additionally, patrollers in the North sector must ensure camper registration.
  • Ensure constant monitoring of the condition of trails and facilities (shelters, signage). Report any anomaly, danger, or situation requiring intervention (e.g., fallen trees, missing signage).
  • Maintain effective communication with the dispatcher and emergency services when needed.
  • Inform users of the current regulations and code of ethics, and ensure their application in the field.
  • All other related tasks.

YOUR PROFILE

Category Requirement
Languages
  • Essential bilingualism (French and English), spoken, to interact effectively with all visitors.
Experience (Patroller)
  • Not mandatory; will be paired with an experienced patroller as needed.
Experience (Senior Patroller)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a winter trail patroller.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Key Skills
  • Customer service-oriented approach and exceptional courtesy.
  • Autonomy, rigor, and keen observation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Gatineau Park trail network.
Obligations
  • Hold the required NCC (National Capital Commission) security clearance.
  • 20-hour Wilderness and Remote First Aid training (provided by Montagne Explore on December 6-7 if needed).
  • Hold snowmobile driving training (provided by Montagne Explore if needed).
Specifics
  • Ability to work outdoors regardless of weather conditions, including weekends and statutory holidays.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Position Type: Seasonal / Full-time, part-time, or on-call
  • Schedule: Variable coverage window between 9:00 AM and 10:00 PM, every day between December 4, 2026, and March 31, 2027
  • Workplace: Chelsea Complex or Philippe Lake Complex, Gatineau Park
  • Compensation: Between $20 and $24 per hour.
