In collaboration with Gatineau Park, managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC), we are looking for dynamic, autonomous individuals who are passionate about the outdoors to join our team as Service Manager — Patrol and Visitor Services.

This role is essential to ensuring the operational and administrative management of the patrol and visitor services department during the winter season.

YOUR ROLE

Under the supervision of the Director of Montagne Explore, the Service Manager will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Oversee the full recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of the patrol and visitor services teams.
  • Develop team work schedules to ensure optimal service coverage based on peak periods and operational needs.
  • Carry out annual performance evaluations and proactively manage conflicts within the teams.
  • Produce a detailed weekly report on the state of operations, including patrol statistics, incidents, and visitor services performance indicators.
  • Keep emergency response protocols (first aid, evacuation, search and rescue) up to date and ensure they are communicated to the teams.
  • Ensure that the patrol team maintains its annual certification in wilderness and remote first aid.
  • Ensure that all equipment required for patrol and visitor services operations (radios, first aid kits, vehicles, etc.) is functional and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance as needed.
  • Handle complaints, special situations, and complex incidents involving visitors, ensuring a professional resolution.
  • Work closely with other park departments (maintenance, administration, conservation) to ensure smooth operations and consistent service.
  • Collaborate with park management to anticipate visitor information needs (trail conditions, snow conditions, regulations) and prepare key messages to be shared by patrol and visitor services teams.
  • Any other related duties.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Montagne Explore is an organization working in the field of emergency response and safety. In collaboration with Gatineau Park, managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC), we are looking for dynamic, autonomous individuals who are passionate about the outdoors to join our team as Patrollers.

This role is essential to ensuring the safety and well-being of visitors enjoying Gatineau Park’s extensive trail network, particularly during the winter season. The patroller is an ambassador for safety and information in the field.

YOUR ROLE

Under the supervision of Montagne Explore, the Patroller and Senior Patroller will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Actively patrol the trail network (ski, snowshoe, winter biking, walking) to ensure user safety and compliance with park regulations.
  • Perform minor maintenance work as needed.
  • Measure snow depth on the trails and communicate this information to the Visitor Centre.
  • Inspect daily all equipment required for operations.
  • Provide first aid and coordinate evacuations when necessary.
  • Provide all appropriate documentation to the NCC for preventive and emergency interventions.
  • Provide accurate and complete information to visitors. In addition, for patrollers in the North sector, ensure camper registration.
  • Maintain constant monitoring of trail and facility conditions (shelters, signage). Report any anomaly, hazard, or situation requiring intervention (e.g., fallen trees, missing signage).
  • Maintain effective communication with the dispatcher and emergency services when needed.
  • Inform users about regulations and the code of ethics in force, and ensure they are applied in the field.
  • Any other related duties.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Montagne Explore is an organization specializing in staffing services. With safety always top of mind, and in collaboration with Gatineau Park, managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC), we are looking for dynamic and passionate individuals to join our team as Visitor Services Attendants.

This role is essential to the visitor experience. Often, Visitor Services Attendants are the first and only point of contact a Gatineau Park visitor will have with a staff member.

YOUR ROLE

Reporting to the Supervisor – Visitor Services Attendants, the Visitor Services Attendant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Welcome visitors with courtesy and professionalism. Provide accurate and complete information on trails, activities, park regulations, local attractions, and available services.
  • Install and remove self-registration boxes in the parking lot. Install an empty self-registration box before 8:00 a.m. each operating day. Remove deposited coupons and hand them to the supervisor. (Note: All transactions are completed online; no cash handling or reconciliation is required.)
  • Ensure proper parking management. Ensure vehicles are parked in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining sufficient driving lanes. Set up cones, barriers, and signage (e.g., sandwich boards) as needed. Manage temporary parking closures when necessary.
  • Verify entry permits.
  • Help with light maintenance of visitor areas (cleanliness, signage) and prepare these areas for opening and closing.
  • Respond to information requests.
  • Inform users about regulations and the code of ethics in effect.

ABOUT THE POSITION

This role is the cornerstone of field safety operations. The dispatcher provides essential coordination between patrollers, NCC emergency services, and management, ensuring a rapid and effective response to any situation.

YOUR ROLE

Under the supervision of the Patrol Supervisor, the Dispatcher will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Plan, assign, and document the routes of professional and volunteer patrollers on the trail network (ski, snowshoe, winter biking, and walking).
  • Maintain constant, clear communication with all patrollers in the field using radio communication systems and other tracking tools.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for patrollers in the event of an incident. Coordinate the response, deployment of resources, and liaison with emergency services as needed.
  • Accurately document all events, incidents, communications, and interventions in logbooks and operations reports.

YOUR ROLE

Under the supervision of the Montagne Explore Service Manager, the Patrol Supervisor will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Work in collaboration with other departments.
  • Apply, update, and enforce departmental policies and procedures.

  • Ensure effective coordination between professional and volunteer patrollers.
  • Ensure measurements of snow depth on the trails are taken and communicate the information to the Visitor Centre.
  • Document operations and submit them to the Service Manager on a daily basis.
  • Ensure the quality of interventions.
  • Develop a continuous training plan for the patrol team.
  • Ensure daily that all equipment required for operations has been inspected.
